Thanks for making the 4th annual Give n' Gobble ...
another amazing success!Nearly 1500 people made the Give n' Gobble a part of their Thanksgiving tradition. They came out to run, walk and make Thanksgiving about being healthy and giving back to those less fortunate. Once again, for many this was a day to show gratitude and give thanks for all the good that we experience in our lives ... Oh, and rev up that metabolism for the big meal!
This year we reached a new record with 150 incredible volunteers, it really takes an army of dedicated people willing to give up their Thanksgiving morning to make this event a success! We are so grateful for their time and we couldn't do it without them! And their smiley can-do attitudes is what has made this event so much fun!
We are so incredibly thankful for the many sponsors that have supported this event for three years in a row! Please support them with your business whenever you can, they help make this community the wonderful place it is. Check out our Sponsors.
Once again we gave out 1,000 bright orange turkey visors, plus many people wore their own fun turkey hats (see photos on Facebook). Next year maybe we should try for a World's Record of the most turkey hats in one place! Participants donated nearly 8,000 lbs of food and we raised over $21,000 for the food bank! Enough to cover Helping Hands' expenses for the entire year, feeding thousands of people. Thanks to this year's event they were also be able to start a new backpack program where they will give needy children on the school lunch program backpacks with food on Fridays so they have enough food get them through the weekend. Heartwarming! Thanks to everyone who sent us "Thanks!" We've rec'd texts, voicemails, Facebook posts and e-mails from volunteers, sponsors and participants - check them out on our Reviews Page Your kind words mean the world to the entire team!

Thanks for making the 3rd annual Give n' Gobble ...
another amazing success! This year nearly over a thousand people made the Give n' Gobble a part of their Thanksgiving tradition. They came out to run, walk and make Thanksgiving about more than just the turkey (although turkey is good, we love our turkey!) For many this was a day to show gratitude and give thanks for all the good that we experience in our lives. …Oh, and rev up that metabolism for the big meal!
We had over 100 amazing volunteers help with the event this year, it really takes an army of dedicated people willing to give up their Thanksgiving morning to make this event a success! We are so grateful for them, we couldn't do it without them!
Understandably in this economy our sponsorships and food donations were down a bit this year, but registrations were way up and we held a silent auction on eBay so we were still able to exceed our numbers from last year! We are so incredibly thankful for the many sponsors that have supported this event for three years in a row! Please support them with your business whenever you can, they help make this community the wonderful place it is. Check out our Sponsors
This year for something new and fun we gave out 1,000 bright orange turkey visors, plus many people wore their own fun turkey hats (see photos). We figure since there isn't a standing record for the most turkey hats in one location -- we now are the record holders!! :) We also gave medals to top finishers, another first this year ~ anyone who didn't pick up their medal on Thanksgiving can pick it up at the YMCA in Sherwood from 10-2 on Saturday 12/5. As the only timed event in the area we attracted a lot of serious runners.
Despite the rain runners and walkers of all ages showed up in droves with big smiles on their faces - we think the turkey visors helped put some of those smiles there! We had 1020 5K finishers and 274 10K finishers! Participants donated nearly 8,000 lbs of food and we raised over $15,000 for the food bank! Enough to cover Helping Hands' expenses for the entire year…feeding thousands of people.

We had almost 550 participants turn out on a beautiful crisp Thanksgiving morning and they generously donated 479 lbs. of food to food banks! As a result of this event we were able to give Helping Hands, a local food bank affiliated with the Oregon Food Bank, the largest single check they have received to date - $5,000.00!!! This event was a heartwarming and healthy way to kick-off Thanksgiving Day, and it helped many local families in need!

As you can imagine this event takes an amazing number of dedicated, generous people to make it a success...I am so grateful to the following:
- Velma, Gerry, Dotty, and Alice with Helping Hands - I am in awe of your HUGE hearts, dedication, and the work you do all year long to help families that need a "hand up" - what you do every day inspired us to do our small part.
- Over 1,000 runners and walkers, of all ages and experience levels, who made the Give n' Gobble a part of their Thanksgiving! (It made my heart smile to see you all gathered together in the starting tunnel! ) Wow!
- All of the sponsors -- please return the favor and patron them if you can- their support of our community is truly admirable, especially in this economic environment, and we literally couldn't have done this without their support.
- The army of over 70 big-hearted and dedicated volunteers - some have been working with us on this for months, some weeks, and some hours - regardless of the amount of time, they all generously gave of their time and worked their tails off to make the Give n' Gobble a hugely successful event --- and they did it all with smiles & great attitudes! I am filled with admiration and gratitude.
- Special recognition and my endless gratitude goes to my dear friends & neighbors who supported this idea (and believed we could do it!), these people went far above & beyond: Julie Oliveros, Laura Tranquill, Cyndi & Steve Perone, Dawn Perazzo (and her entire family!), Jessica Powell, Gordon Collett, Jonathan & Karen Hawes, Kristi Teats, the Eliason family, Jennifer Mirek, Kelly Marker, Debbie Nelson, Corey Stark, the Stewart Family, the Clark family, the Henderson family, Becky Freeman, Michelle Ettelstein, Julie Kimball, Erica Manthe and Staci Lieuallen- you guys rock!! :)
- And of course I want to thank the City of Sherwood, the Sherwood High School and Sherwood Police - I have lived in Sherwood for almost 12 years, the longest I have ever lived in one place, and while I have been fortunate to live in and travel to some of the most amazing places in the world, I wouldn't choose any other city to live in and raise our three boys! ~ Finally, and most importantly, my deepest gratitude goes to my three wonderful little boys Riley, Nicholas and Zacky (who were incredibly patient & understanding about the hundreds of hours their mommy spent working on this event) and my husband, Roger, his unconditional support and relentless hard work made this event possible!
